MOSCOW, Jan 16 (PRIME) – The Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare Oversight does not confirm the information that a quarter of Russian food is faked, a spokesperson with the authority said late on January 13, adding that imported fish and gourds are falsified most often.
“According to the data available to the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare Oversight, the most bad-quality food on the market are imported gourds having an excessive level of nitrates and imported fish with an excessive ice glaze, which are allowed for imports by the corresponding authorities,” the consumer market watchdog said.
It addied that most food available in Russia meets all quality standards.
Alexei Alexeyenko, an aide to the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight head, said on January 13 that about a quarter of all types of Russian food except eggs is faked on a permanent basis.
As the Federal State Statistics Service reported, only 6.6% of meat and poultry, 5.8% of fish and 3.7% of confectionery products were falsified in January-November 2016.
